Although I may have been given the title of founder of Everlasting Hope, it takes a dedicated team carrying out our mission – placing God at the center of all that we do!
In 2008, I went on my first mission to the Philippines. What I never imagined, is it would be the start of a life-long journey and passion to help Filipino families. In 2011, God birthed the name Everlasting Hope in my heart. Although I didn’t know exactly what my mission was going to be, I knew with certainty that God wanted for the children and families of the Philippines to know and experience the Everlasting Hope that comes through Christ alone.
In December 2011, I made the big move. I quit my nursing job, packed up my belongings, and moved to the Philippines. Over the next few years, I served where doors were opened for me, with a continued prayer of: “Lord, use me”. Working alongside other Filipinos, I supported many communities through outreaches, nutrition, and medical needs.
In 2014, I met a sweet 10-year-old boy diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. Through helping this child and family, I quickly came to realize that there was a huge need for children with cancer in Cebu and neighboring Provinces that was yet to be filled. I learned from a local hema/oncology doctor, that there was no home to house children when they travelled to Cebu City for medical treatment. I instantly knew that this was the mission I was being called to fulfil, but also knew that it wasn’t going to be easy. Having lost both of my parents to cancer in my mid-twenties, I felt my life come full-circle through being given the opportunity to support families as they undergo such difficult and challenging times.
In 2016, my dream became a reality through opening the first ever home in Cebu City to house children undergoing cancer treatment. I am incredibly thankful to our dedicated and compassionate team in the Philippines who passionately serve with all of their heart in carrying out our mission to the children and families entrusted to us.
I moved back to the USA in December 2020 (9 years after moving to the Philippines) to help lead our US nonprofit. Although I will always be a Filipina at heart, it has been my greatest desire that the Philippines organization would be led and carried out by Filipinos who truly understand the population that they serve. I am thankful that Patrick Ian Jumamil has stepped in to lead this team, which he truly leads well.
Our US nonprofit was formed in 2018 to help support the efforts of Everlasting Hope Philippines with the hope of one day expanding to help more communities in need. I am thankful to those in the USA who have served on our Board and as a mentor and counselor in supporting me, which has helped to bring Everlasting Hope to where we are today.
Thank you cannot even begin to express my gratitude and appreciation to each and every person who has been a part of bringing Everlasting Hope to where are today. With nearly 400 children and families served since 2016, I can hardly wait to see all God is going to do through Everlasting Hope over the years to come.
