April is “Cancer in Children” Awareness Month in the Philippines. Let us come together and raise awareness of the needs of children with cancer, especially during this most vulnerable time.

Imagine hearing the words: “Your child has cancer”. This is something no family ever wants to hear. Shock, disbelief, and fear are just some of the emotions and feelings our families experience when receiving this heart breaking news. As the shock wears off, reality begins to set in that they will soon have medical bills and expenses that can far reach 10-15 years of an average Filipino family’s salary. For really complicated cases, it can reach as much as 25-50 years’ their salary.

Children have a much greater chance of survival in developed countries where they have better access to healthcare and resources. On the other hand, in developing countries like the Philippines, our children face many challenges in receiving proper treatment and care. Lack of financial resources, transportation, a safe place to stay, good nutrition and hygiene, and access to healthcare in their community are some of the major factors keeping Filipino children from receiving the proper care they so desperately need.

At Everlasting HOPE, we are committed to enhancing and improving the quality of life of children with cancer and their families. We provide much needed emotional and spiritual care, in addition to bringing the support of the community around the family, in hopes that these children will live long and happy lives!

Thank you on behalf of the almost 200 children and families we have been able to help. Together we are making a difference! MAKE A DIFFERENCE TODAY!
